Bay Mare, 1984, Straight Egyptian. This grand mare blesses Talaria with her presence, and is the last breeding daughter of Ikhnatoon in this country, and one of the last in the world.

In October of 1984, at the El Zahraa Stud in Cairo, Egypt, a bay filly was born. Of royal parentage, her sire, Ikhnatoon, was the leading stallion at El Zahraa from 1974 until his death in 1986. Her dam, Solafa, a granddaughter of El Araby, was a valued broodmare at the same farm, and, so desirable were the offspring of this nick that very few could be afforded by any but the Middle Eastern stud farms.

Fardousa was imported to the US in 1986, and was acquired by Talaria at 17 years of age in the spring of 2000, to be bred to Botswana. So successful has been this cross of Fardousa and Botswana, that Fardousa is now one of the most esteemed broodmares in our herd. She has given us three gorgeous fillies, the lovely Nairobi (see photo and text in “Mares,”) Setswana, and, in 2004, a truly exquisite black bay filly, Falisha bint Fardousa.
