Liz Salmon Seminar: A Great Learning Experience
Talaria clients and other guests fortunate enough to have signed up early for another enjoyable educational seminar the weekend of November 5/6th were treated to two days of invaluable knowledge—including practical hands-on application using different examples from Talaria’s stock of fine Arabian horses—and the usual delicious food and drink for which Talaria is known (thank you Jane Eikenberry and John Dolphy!).

Featured guest speaker, Liz Salmon, impressed all with her vast knowledge and wisdom garnered from a lifetime with horses—including judging Arabians all over the world. She discussed breeding, international marketing, and competition (again, with emphasis on the global Arabian horse experience). Liz has a great sense of humour, a relaxed and engaging manner, and we look forward to welcoming her back in the near future!

Liz was joined on Saturday evening and Sunday morning by another equine professional and a rising star in the Western, Reining, and Hunter performance arenas, Dale Brown of Dale Brown Performance Horses in Rentz, Georgia. Dale demonstrated competitive W/P movement (in show attire) on the beautiful Botswana son, TF Afrikhan Bey, (already a Champion Junior Western Horse) during the horse presentation Saturday evening. He then offered invaluable insights as to desirable conformation for fine performance horses (as well as demonstrations with several riders and mounts) during the Sunday morning session. It’s easy to see why this young trainer’s star is rapidly rising—and for those of you not familiar with Dale Brown, we recommend you “stay tuned!”

Beverly Smith of Smith-Embry Insurance graciously shared some of her professional equine insurance expertise and provided various interesting options for horse and farm insurance needs.

TF Afrikhan Bey Debuts in Performance

Botswana's first get to compete in performance, Afrikhan Bey (2002 black stallion out of Rohara Shahblee), after just five months under saddle, was Champion Western Pleasure Junior Horse in his first show - GAHA's Summer Classic. Botswana sends his sincerest congratulations to both Afrikhan Bey and to Dale Brown who is off to a great start with him!

TF Fezzan to New Zealand!
Botswana’s first Straight Egyptian son, TF Fezzan (a 2002 bay colt out of Ramses Forever), has been sold to Bev Jones & Sue Spratt, owners of the Gerzanne Arabian Stud in Te Puke, New Zealand, home of a long-standing extremely successful Straight Egyptian breeding program.

Fezzan was the 2005 Egyptian Event’s Reserve Champion Extended Specialty SE Stallion, 3 years & older, as well as the Champion Halter Stallion ATH.

Congratulations and a sincere thank-you to Bev & Sue as they have entrusted such a significant element of their future in this fine young Botswana stallion!

2005 Foal Crop
What would turn out to be the most exciting foal crop we’ve ever seen started off with a filly by Botswana out of the lovely ZE Fa’aiq daughter, TH Celeste—a beautiful bay deer-like charmer (see her photo with her owner, Jerry Chambers, on our Foals Page).

From that point on, the mares at Talaria delivered an absolutely incredible foal crop; all colors (from two black fillies by Botswana, to two gorgeous grey colts by Suhal al Nasser right through three Tobiano pinto foals by S Khoncherto), all correct, truly beautiful—and mostly fillies.

Come visit, walk our pastures, and see for yourself!!

2005 Egyptian Event (In-depth Coverage)
Talaria Farms had an incredible Egyptian Event this year. Every horse won at least a Top Ten - including all our amateurs - and we ended up with so many ribbons, plaques and neck garlands that we ran out of room to hang them by the end of the week. In one class, 7 out of the Top 10 horses were all from Talaria Farms! Visit
2005 Egyptian Event” on our website for more in-depth coverage of this fabulous week in Kentucky.

Botswana
Botswana is once again the 2nd Leading Halter Sire in number of points after the 2005 Egyptian Event. Botswana earned an astounding 155 points with only 12 get showing — and only ranks second to his sire, who was #1 with over 200 points, but had 26 get showing. See Botswana’s webpage for further details!

US Judging Clinic, with Gary McDonald, Saturday, May 7th
Talaria clients and friends spent an informal, relaxed, and informative day with Gary McDonald on Saturday, May 7, discussing US Arabian judging methods (including how one becomes an Arabian judge), and learning some halter techniques while watching Gary school a few horses and assist some amateurs planning to show at the Egyptian Event.
