One Terrific Weekend

         Mike Discusses Young Colt

                       with Guest

Perhaps Talaria Farms’ most provocative colloquium to date was experienced by guests the weekend of 2 December.

“The Influence of Straight Egyptian Bloodlines on the Contemporary Arabian Horse” + “Evaluating Young Horses for Career Paths” featured halter trainer Mike Wilson and performance trainer Dale Brown sharing their valuable knowledge and experiences both in and outside the show ring.  Bridgette Orwig kept the entire crowd on their toes with a fascinating pedigree quiz and, of course, Talaria’s own, Allison Mehta, led the way in her inimitable eloquent manner.

Two days of casual yet educational discussions blended with demonstrations, individual horse evaluations, and the usual excellent fare prepared by Jane & John, left Talaria’s guests from around the country to return to their homes with new and fresh perspectives.

The weekend also allowed guests and clients to say farewell to Talaria’s retiring general manager Mike Albertini and to meet the new management team – Farm Manager Kelly Davis and Business Manager Deborah McLean.

Talaria Farms is already working on their next event for March 17th & 18th.  Look for news of this exciting weekend in the upcoming months.

Botswana’s first regional top five winner in performance was achieved by TF Tsanzibar in the always competitive Region 12 Western Pleasure Junior Horse Class.  In the training program of Dale Brown for six months, Tsanzibar has blossomed.  Tsanzibar also won the Western Pleasure Open Class at this year’s Egyptian Event.  His next stop is Youth Nationals.

Not to be out done by his half brother, Straight Egyptian TF Afrikan Alkhemi, also bred and owned by Allison Mehta, was Region 12 Reserve Champion Futurity Colt shown by Gary McDonald.

At the 2006 Egyptian Event, TF Afrikhan Bey was Reserve Western Pleasure Junior Horse and Winner of the Novice Class after having been gelded for only three weeks. At the 2006 Atlanta Classic, he was Champion Western Pleasure Junior Horse.

All three - Egyptian Sired & Straight Egyptian - sons of Botswana are charting a course validating their place in the open arenas, in performance as well as in halter.  There are more coming soon.

2006 Foals

Novaglori’s Filly   TF Knight Hawke

Each year it seems that we declare that this is the best foal crop ever. Maybe, maybe not, but one thing is for certain. This year, out of 24 Botswana foals born to date, 17 are fillies and all are fine young individuals (even the 7 boys!). Two 4-year old SE Botswana daughters, TF Setswana & TF Nairobi, each gave birth to Suhal al Nasser foals, a filly and a colt respectively.

And, by the way, just what have Botswana and Ladyhawke been up to?  For lots more detail on our 2006 foals, visit our Foals Page by clicking on the foals block in the top right corner of any page.

Judith Forbis Featured Guest Speaker

Judith Ready to Start Engaged Guests

On April 29th & 30th, Talaria Farms proudly presented another in our continuing series of seminars, “A Breeder’s Vision” (Lessons from the Past in Breeding for the Future), featuring Judith Forbis of Ansata Arabian Stud. This legendary breeder shared lessons she learned in nearly 50 years of breeding Straight Egyptian Arabians, in addition to sharing many coveted photographs of her early years in the Middle East as well as of her foundation stock that changed the course of the Straight Egyptian Horse forever.

On Sunday morning, Larry Olsen, DVM, assisted by Mike Albertini and Tom Patterson, followed Judy's session with a very informative technical segment on breeding your mare.  An absolute bounty of knowledge and wisdom was offered up the entire weekend to the delight of us all. Of course, the bounty included Jane's and John's usual outstanding dining experiences.

We are grateful to Judy for her generosity of personal time.  For many, it will be a weekend not soon forgotten and, for the rest, likely remembered forever.

Talaria Farms had a terrific Egyptian Event this year. All but one of the 20 horses taken won at least a Top Ten - including all of our amateurs - and, once again, we ended up with so many ribbons, plaques and neck garlands that we ran out of room to hang them by the end of the week.  Click on “2006 Egyptian Event”  for more in-depth coverage of this year’s week in Kentucky.

Employment Opportunities

Occassionally we have positions available for the following - conditioning, training, breeding, farm maintenance, & administration.

We always keep an eye open looking for qualified staff that have good moral & work ethics, are concerned with the horses’ well-being, are willing to learn, and of course, are considerate & friendly.

Additionally, apprenticeships can prove to be an outstanding opportunity for both parties.

Please review Talaria's Pledge found at the bottom of the farm page of this website to be sure that you are clear as to our basic philosophies.

We welcome responsible inquiries via résumé sent either by U.S. mail to the farm or by e-mail to: info@talariafarms.com
