2006 U.S. Egyptian Event

Once again, good fortune smiled on Talaria Farms, and we had another great Egyptian Event at the Kentucky Horse Park.

By Saturday before the show, the Talaria red feng shui flags were flying in the breeze, friends and guests were enjoying Jane’s wonderful cooking and John’s hearty hospitality—and the horses had all arrived and begun to settle in.

This year we added a new dimension to our Event experience, and sent some Botswana offspring into the performance classes. What we hope will become a highly respected Talaria performance program got off to a remarkable start. Arlene Magid emailed us from England in June to tell us that Botswana, at just 8 years old (with his oldest foals under saddle only 4) is now #1 Performance Sire at the 2006 Egyptian Event. This is a dream come true, and we owe a great big “thank you” to Dale Brown, who trains the Talaria horses! Not only did TF Tsanzibar and TF Afrikhan Bey (a former EBC Champion as well) bring home high honors at this year’s Event, but both have multiple Class A Championships, and were Top 5 (and “Top 6”) at the very competitive Region 12 Championships in May!

The halter horses, not to be outdone, brought ribbon after ribbon back from center ring to help decorate the Talaria stalls—and by week’s end, we had racked up 15 Top Tens, 7 Class Championships, and 8 Class Reserve Championships. Plus—Afrikan Alkhemi (with the lovely Amy Austin) was Reserve Show Champion, ATH and, perhaps the most poignant moment was when the Botswana daughter, Star of Afrika (with Gary and Holly McDonald’s darling daughter, Madyson on the lead) was pinned Show Champion Mare, ATH!

We want to thank all the handlers and riders (Gary McDonald, Paolo Capecci, Ted Carson, Ricardo Rivero, Ben Bogart, Amy Austin, Alex McLean, Holly, Madyson and Kenny McDonald) for making Talaria Farms once again one of the most winning barns at the 2006 Egyptian Event.

And, a special “thank you” to our great clients: Jerry and Cara Chambers, Tom and Chris Owen, Tonya and Marty Lockman, Mark Norcross, and Neal Schott for entrusting their beautiful horses to Talaria in 2006!

We had a lot of fun and plans are already underway for the 2007 Event!
