2011 US Egyptian Event

Botswana Get Propel Him to Five in a Row!

With 120 registered foals to his credit, Botswana has, for the fifth straight year, won the title of the leading straight Egyptian sire in the United States.  His get won again at the highest levels in halter as well as in performance and, a few of his sons competed and excelled in both disciplines.

Botswana's get often are put under saddle as late three & four-year olds, offering them opportunities to an entirely new dimension of possible career paths, inclduing but not limited to Hunter Pleasure, Western Pleasure, Endurance, and of course as family riding horses.  All horses are simply neither going to be stars in the halter arena nor ideal breeding stock.  We, as horse breeders, believe strongly that we have an obligation to offer each of the animals we bring into this world, an opportunity to live a full, long and productive life.  The results speak for themselves.

With the news on Tuesday morning of the loss of our beloved Dennis Johnson, with whom we worked and sweated profusely from Thursday

through Sunday, the week could not have started more ominously.  While the proverbial question, "why do so many of the great ones die way too

young?" remains unanswered, the spirit with which Dennis lived and worked carried The Team through the week's highs and lows. Credit goes to each of you - Anjelica, Botswana, Dana, Darryl, David, Demarques, Gustavo, Jane, Jazmin, Jennifer, Johanna, John, Jose, Marcus, Mike, Peri, Stefanie, and,

of course,

To Dennis - thank you for a remarkable 2011 US Egyptian Event!

Jazmin Palomera & TF Hassan

Congratulations to our own Jazmin Palomera, who won the Amal Bukra Perpetual Trophy representing the junior high point winner.

She racked up points riding and showing in halter with her own Botswana son TF Hassan (whom she paid for with her own hard-earned

money) as well as with the beautiful Botswana four year-old daughter TF Tamarind.  Jazmin's show credits with Hassan include Egyptian Halter

Geldings ATH (top 5), Hunter Pleasure – Novice (1st)), Hunter Pleasure Junior Horse (2nd) & Hunter Pleasure – ATR/JTR (Top 5).

Jazmin also won with Tamarind in Amateur Halter Egyptian Mares – JTH (1st) and Egyptian Halter Mares – Novice Handler (Top 5).

Stefanie Bovens, Andalujia's New Groom

Stefanie made her first trip to the U.S. with Johanna and, after quickly adjusting to the trying heat of the American south,

became an integral member of the Talaria Team.  Shown here following Andalujia's Silver Championship Junior Filly Win.

Botswana had 17 winning get at the show, and was the only stallion to sire three of the halter champions: Gold Champion Gelding TF Afrikhan Magik (x Maggie Lee BA), Gold Champion Mare ATH TF Tamarind (x Taliida Moniet), and Silver Champion Filly TF Andalujia (x TF Kestrelia). Botswana is also the sire of the two performance champions of the show, both of whom also won in halter. TF Prince DeBeers (x SS Queen Ofhearts) was second in his world class in halter and was then named Hunter Pleasure Champion. The Western Pleasure Champion was TF Afrikhan Magik, who made a quick switch to western tack after winning his gelding halter title so he won two championships within an hour!

Western Pleasure Champion & Halter Gelding Champion

Magik duplicates his brother Afrikhan Gold's feat from the 2009 Event, when Gold won both Gelding & Hunter Pleasure Championships

Thanks to Peri & Mike for having him prepared and guiding him to this success.

One less day in the show schedule of this year’s Event kept everyone on their toes for an even faster paced show than normal,

even though we took nine fewer horses than in 2010.  But our team, now a blend of well seasoned veterans of this annual marathon,

combined with a few talented newcomers, functioned smoothly and with the professional aplomb for which Talaria Farms is known.

Congratulations and thank you to each of you.
