THAMER AL KHALED

Talaria Farms is both honored and excited to introduce to U.S. breeders the 2005 Straight Egyptian stallion, Thamer al Khaled (2010 Reserve National Champion Stallion of Egypt).  Thamer is on lease to Talaria for two seasons from the Al Bawady Stud of Cairo, Egypt, and offers some very desirable and quite rare outcross blood for breeders in the U.S.

To understand the significance of this young stallion, one must first look at his pedigree.  His sire, El Thay Khemal Pasha (double Ansata Halim Shah) was bred by Cornelia Tauschke, whose El Thayeba Stud in northern Germany is regarded as one of the most successful straight Egyptian breeding programs in Europe today—producing elegant and refined horses who have correct conformation and sound legs and are great athletes.  Three exceptional mares were foundation mares for this program—Thamer has two of them in his pedigree:  El Thay Maheera (Nizam x Mona II) and the very beautiful Kamla II (Ansata Halim Shah x Mona III).  Both of these mares carry the “Elite” title of the German Arab Horse Society for their exceptional contribution to the breed, and Kamla II’s blood is in great demand in the Middle East where her get and grand-get are found in the herds of every major farm.  However, little of the El Thayeba blood is available here in the U.S.

Thamer’s  dam, RN Al Shahba, also carries historic horses in her pedigree, beginning with the lovely Malekat el Gamal  (Waseem by Nazeer x Nagdia) bred by Sayad Marei of the Albadeia Stud in Egypt and a prolific foundation mare for the Imperial Egyptian Stud and the dam of several champions.  RN Al Shahba also brings two lines to Dr. Nagel’s historic foundation mare, Hanan, another German “Elite” mare and the dam of such great horses as Ibn Galal I, Asfour, Salaa el Dine, and Ghazalah.  Moreover, and very important for us with our Botswana daughters, Thamer’s dam offers a line to Babson breeding, through Mohafez.

However, we at Talaria Farms do not breed based solely on pedigrees—we have always looked at a horse’s phenotype first, and then studied the pedigree.

Such has been true in our selection of  Thamer.  He offers to us physical traits we have been seeking for some time in an outcross stallion:  masculinity combined with refinement, size combined with elegance, great legs and feet, huge dark eyes, and very upright neck—and extremely athletic movement.  (Cornelia Tauschke has always bred for good knee and hock action, and Thamer is true to her program in this regard).

Beyond this Thamer offers the Abeyyan om Jurays strain which is now fairly rare in the U.S.—and he is extremely representative of his strain (as is Botswana of the Dahman Shawan strain).  Abeyyan horses are showy and elegant with extremely high tail carriage, with a refined quite long neck which is more upright than Saglawi or Kuhaylan.  Moreover, Thamer also has a beautiful face with huge dark well-set eyes, a lovely disposition, and a gorgeous deep bay coat (even though he comes from a pedigree filled with grey horses).

Thamer has two beautiful show quality fillies on the ground already in Egypt.  Since he arrived so late to Talaria Farms we have only had time this year to get one mare in foal to him—our multi-champion Botswana daughter, TF Tamarind.  But, as of February 2012, he will be bred to several more of our beautiful Botswana daughters (such as Star of Afrika, TF Kampalah, Falisha bint Fardousa, and TF Nirvanah).  He will also be available to a limited number of approved outside mares.

2012 Fresh Cooled Stud Fee: $2,500.
